The last thing I hear falling asleep at this time of year -- and the first sound I notice waking up -- is the sharp plunk of black walnuts, still in the hull, falling from the trees. When they hit the roof, it's like the crack of a ball meeting a bat. They look like lime green golf balls and do about as much damage to large-leaved plants. more >>
