77 Square is the definitive arts, culture and entertainment guide for Madison, Wis., and the surrounding area.
Summer is finally here, which means that longish hairstyle that kept you warm all winter might be starting to feel like a damp rabbit on your head right about now. It's a summer ritual, particularly in humid regions like Wisconsin -- this is the time when everybody goes to get their summer haircuts.
The high-end salons and neighborhood barber shops alike seem to get more traffic in May and June as the mercury starts to head north of 80 degrees. Some customers, especially guys, tend to go for a short, utilitarian cut -- the "Vin Diesel" seems awfully popular right now -- while others opt for something comfortably short and lightweight, but more stylish.
This is also the time of year when some folks have a summer fling with a daring new cut or even a new color altogether. Hey, your hair is going to spend four months under a wool hat next winter -- why not let it live a little now?
